So, I've done it again. I saw the most amazing invention known to man while watching the television late at night... Luckily Big D was there with me, so I knew it wasn't a dream.

Pancake Puffs. That's right, Pancake Puffs. www.pancakepuff.com

It looked so fun and easy when the TV lady was doing it that when I saw it the very next day at Target I knew what I had to do. That was Sunday.

I have already made cornbread puffs and muffin puffs using this amazing device. Everyone seems to think that everything tastes like pancakes when they come out (one theory was that it was an amazing pancake flavored pan, mine was 'griddle taste'). I've been lucky enough that the only other person I know who has seen it has been there to coach and help as we've been relying more on our memory of the show than reading the box or included cookbook!

The only gyp is since I didn't call to order it I don't get the free two year supply of pointy sticks...

I took a video, I'll let you know when it's on the 'tube.

    Charlie, my new bowling partner.
I usually have an hour long lunch break from work. I often use any extra time after eating to go have a wander around a nearby neighborhood. On Thursday while walking down Gennessee near Olympic I found this: http://gallery.mac.com/the.richie/100054/IMG_0001

I stuck my hand in to see if the holes were arranged in such a way I could actually use it, then grabbed it, lugged it several blocks then threw it in my trunk until I could get it home to investigate further.

When I got home I completely forgot I had a bowling ball in the trunk of my car until someone asked how my day was. I ran to the car to show off my find and ended up performing archaeology! When I saw the papers I automatically assumed that they were just some sort of trash thrown into the mix but they were so much more:

It was like taking a trip in a time machine to 1962! But like most expeditions you find more ancient things as you press on:

So crazy, if balls were this cheap now I totally would have had one by now!

The name emblazoned upon the ball is CHARLIE, so that is how I will now refer to it (maybe without the CAPS).

Sometimes being a geek takes its toll on the soul...
Erick Wujcik died this week. You wouldn't know who he was unless you played Palladium role playing games, or so in to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that you had to have everything with that name on the cover. Turns out I was both.

He created the TMNT RPG that I played avidly in Jr. High. Where Gary Gygax was a doddering grandfather who never wanted me to do too much bookkeeping, Erick was the super cool uncle who understood that it's really complicated to fire fifty heat-seeking missiles into a crowd (there were LOTS of dice to roll).

This horrible news comes on the heels of the rape of my childhood by the people most likely to do it. I am speaking of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. It was bad enough that George has spent the better part of this century smashing apart everything I ever believed about the Jedi but now he has teamed up with his old friend to destroy everything I hold dear... Have you seen the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? If not, do yourself a favor: Don't. I'll spare the spoilers except... Three waterfalls!?! Seriously, if there's one stunt that doesn't get cooler when repeated it's falling off a waterfall...

    yeesh.

    15 minutes...
I've decided to see how far I can get walking in 15 minutes from home... It's my dream to have all sorts of flow charts, Powerpoint presentations, interactive maps (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=108551921513419249992.00044a686d54429f71435) and reviews of local businesses.

But let's face it, I barely let myself have the time to do this much...

Gosh, a funny cartoon map of my neighborhood would be a hoot, though! (who talks like that?!?)

    So excited!
The CBS website, on top of streaming recent episodes of current shows, has put a 'classics' section in!

Twilight Zone (now I can make people watch my favorite episode, 'Uncle Simon,' at will), Star Trek (I've been meaning to watch 'The Tholian Web' for a little while now), and MacGuyver (Stargate with no SG1, gate, guns or military), just to name a few!

    "x's" for "i's"
I had some friends come over tonight. They were excited about "boxing" on my Wii (amazing that everyone loves the Wii even if you haven't bought any additional games). Unfortunately, when I went to turn my Wii on...

Nothing. Just the short blip on the screen (as though the TV is saying, "somethings hooked up here, I can feel it") then no signal, the Wiimotes won't work. Grrr.

Luckily, I have an assortment of card games. One of these games is Fluxx. Thank you Looney Labs for saving Wii night at my apartment! Even more exciting, really, because all five of us could play.

    Now back to troubleshooting.

p.s. Yes, I unplugged everything and plugged it back in, checked it on AV plugs confirmed to be working, checked the booklet, tried to sync the Wiimotes, it will accept and eject discs and I am totally bitter.

    most productive day
Last night I got off work at 6:30. It took me an hour to get home (I really need to start checking the Hollywood Bowl schedule). Despite the set back I was still able to:

    Shop (just toiletries)
    buy shampoo (stupid salon exclusivity)
    two loads of laundry
Watched "Heroes" and "Chuck" (on NBC)
moved a couch to the curb (yes, I called 'large item pick up')

...and still had time to go to Pat's for a few before going to bed around 12:30!

I still have no idea how I did it all!

    --addition--

...and I converted two plastic goblins into squig herders!

    Vagabond chronicles: part fin
I sent my resume via e-mail to half a dozen places and left some messages... Then I went on a Job interview today with the Argyle Salon & Spa. It seemed like it went well.

Came home to try to make some more use of my day, my neighbor was home so went to hang out for a bit. Got a phone number from a random 323 #, took it and was told that the job I interviewed on Monday was mine for about a dollar more per hour than I expected (not to mention all the benefits that I never had before {health etc.}).

    Now it's just a vacation!

    jobless odyssey: day 2
Tinkered with my resume a bit... Went to have lunch with my friend Sarah and we visited Shades all natural hair salon to visit my friend Susan. She can't afford to hire me but her friend works at Disney HR! Meanwhile my friend Christopher needs help with his salon, Splitends, behind the Orange Curtain... Two days with him should cover week one out of work, YES!

Then some laundry, magic and Wii...

    unemployment: day 1
While doing laundry this morning I got a phone call from the place I was interviewing at today to move my appointment from 12:30 to noon. I panicked because I was afraid I wouldn't have clean clothes in time!

When I got there (late {I even ran one and a half blocks}) all seemed well. After my interview I had the feeling that they just needed to figure out when they were going to hire me, not if...

Now I am off to hang out with a few friends and gettin' ready to go to Pat's cocktails to celebrate my first interview!

    I WAS TAGGED BY ALISSA...
Rules: Once you have been tagged, you have to write a blog with 10 weird random things, facts, or habits about yourself. At the end, you choose 10 people to be tagged, list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says "you are tagged" on their profile and tell them to read your latest blog... but since Aliss abarely followed these rules herself, I'll be even more careless...

    1. I have a manicure/pedicure bi-weekly because I think spending money on my nails will keep me from biting them. It turns out I'm right.

    2. I love Dean Koontz novels.

    3. I haven't taken a real vacation in over three years.

    4. I pre-ordered the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows four different ways (because I'm not sure where I'll be).

    5. I don't (and can barely pretend to) understand why people like to play video games even though I've been known to do essentially the exact same things with hundreds of pages of rules, miniatures, cards and/or dice.

    6. I've read more than 11 books written by L. Ron Hubbard.

    7. I have favorite accents I like to hear... Minnesotan (Twin Cities a plus), Guatamalan, and Valley (like, even most people born in the 818 totally don't have it anymore :-(

    8. There are episodes of Star Trek, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager I have not seen specifically to have a moment in the future I can see a 'new' episode (I didn't think of it in time for the Next Generation and never even really thought about watching a single episode of Enterprise).

    9. Paperback books are not permitted to be displayed in my home.

    10. Today is the first day in three years I am not on probation!

Tag, you're it: Whoever might be paying attention!
